All our guides have been working on the mountain from porters all the way up to guides. They will not only show you the route on Kilimanjaro but they are companions as well. Our guides have good English and are more than willing to share their knowledge on all aspects of Kilimanjaro, as well as, Tanzania culture and life. An essential part of a guide’s job is organizing the day to day logistics, making sure that everything runs smoothly and the service you receive is unparallel.

Our guides monitor all aspects of the climb - which includes your health, pace, and comfort. They are also there to ensure that all crew members are well looked after. Professional Mountain Guides, all head guides (at least 1 per trip) currently certified by NOLS USA as WFR (Wilderness First Responder) Ratio of at least one guide for every three guests, to ensure personalized attention.

Each of our 12 head guides each have a team of four core assistants who perform specific tasks in the camp, which allows our head guides to focus on the climbers, not just the logistics.

Cooks and Porters

• Guaranteeing wages if a porter is unable to complete the trek
• Providing professional waterproof and windproof raingear to ALL our porters
• Providing closed-cell sleeping pads in tented sleeping accommodations with floors
• Inspecting porters before treks to ensure adequate footwear, warm clothing and sleeping gear, plus eye protection
• Adhering to written safety precautions and treatments equal to that for paying trekkers
• Paying our porters’ health care and injury costs
• Hearty meals provided, without subtracting from wage (as most other companies do)
• Upholding mandated weight limits for porter loads
• Paying porters for removing waste left on the mountain by other companies
  
  

We provide private vehicle transport from Marangu Village (where all our porters call home) to the gate for each staff member on each trek, and return transport home at the end of each trek. Most companies only hire porters who are ‘available’ at the gate.

We provide annually professional wilderness first-aid training, language courses, and specific task-training courses for our porters, including all costs (transport, accommodation and meals) during the course duration for all porters. We are an active member and leader in beholding the ethics of the Kilimanjaro Porter’s Assistance Project (KPAP). Based at the foot of Kilimanjaro, in Moshi, they are a Tanzanian non-governmental organization committed to improving the working conditions of the porters.
